Our luxurious, handicap accessible holiday home (villa) is situated in the new and exclusive gated community of The Abbey, West Haven, Orlando, Florida. We are ideally located just a few miles from all of Orlando's main attractions. It also has excellent facilities should you simply wish to relax in Florida's year round sunshine. So whether you are here for the Theme Parks, attractions, or relaxation, you've found an ideal base for your vacation here in Florida. The home (villa) is ideal if you are a wheelchair user, disabled (handicapped), elderly or infirm in any way; there is flat access throughout and no steps to worry about.

We chose our home (villa) for its location but also for its privacy. The villa is set in a nature conservation area and backs on to fields, ensuring that it is not overlooked, unlike many other rental villas.

The communal areas of The Abbey development have been beautifully landscaped and the 'sidewalks' have been finished in block paving. Victorian style street lamps complete the feeling of style.

Our handicap wheelchair accessible home (villa) is very spacious and comprises a master double bedded room with en-suite bath and wheel-in shower room, second double bedded room with en-suite bath/shower room, 2 twin bedded rooms (one decorated in a Mickey Mouse theme), bathroom with bath/shower, kitchen, dining area (table seats 8), breakfast bar with stools, living area, utility room, double garage, covered lanai (porch), pool bathroom and heated, screened pool with an easy to use hydraulic hoist.

Being a full time wheelchair user myself, I discussed what features I required with the builder before the villa was built. I have paid particular attention to make the whole villa suitable for the disabled (handicapped) i.e. wheelchair users and those with a handicap or walking difficulties. All doors are 36'' wide, there is a wheel-in shower (with built in shower seat and hand held shower) and accessible bath in the master en-suite bathroom. There is also a separate shower/commode chair. The second en-suite bathroom and other bathroom are also wheelchair accessible. There is level access at the front door, out to the covered lanai/pool deck and from the garage. The electrically operated garage door also has a remote control opener. The whole of the pool deck is wheelchair accessible. And it is also possible to get under the dining table, kitchen sink and bathroom sink!

Our home (villa) has its own private screened and heated, south facing pool. The pool hoist is in the centre of the deck, adjacent to the steps, giving easy access to the pool. The hoist is hydraulic and is extremely easy to use. The pool screen is a fine mesh, which allows the sun through, but stops leaves, insects, etc from entering the pool. Independent wheelchair access to the pool deck can be gained from the dining area; able bodied guests can also gain access from the living area and master bedroom. The pool contains a light which enables its use at night should you feel the urge.

We specifically chose to have the large covered lanai on the east of the property, providing an escape from the heat of the sun if required.

We have furnished the home (villa) to a high standard. In addition to air conditioning throughout, the bedrooms, living area and covered lanai all have ceiling fans. The kitchen is fully equipped including range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer with ice maker and water, waste disposal, coffee maker, dinner service, kitchen utensils, glasses, cutlery, etc. There is cable T.V. in the living area and two master bedrooms; the living area also has a DVD player, video recorder and radio/tape/C.D. player. The separate utility room has a washing machine, drier, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board. A telephone is located in the kitchen area and master bedroom; local calls are free. There is also a hairdryer in each bathroom. There is a wireless broadband internet connection so you can surf the net and keep up to date with your emails; don't forget your laptop!

The covered lanai is equipped with table and chairs and the pool deck with loungers, two of which are of raised height to make transfers easier.

Each bedroom has ample wardrobe and drawer space. There are also numerous other cupboards throughout the villa.

This is our holiday home and we have a management company to ensure it is professionally maintained inside and out. Any problems, they are on call 24 hours a day.

We have provided a selection of books, games and C.D.'s for use whilst staying in the villa. We also have a folder containing details of attractions, restaurants, things to do, etc.

In accordance with Florida State Law, the villa is equipped with smoke alarms and emergency lighting. There are alarms on all doors leading to the pool deck, which are useful to warn if children stray on to the pool deck unaccompanied.

We can also provide details of companies who hire equipment and accessible vans, should this be required.
